BC Place Bag & Water Bottle Rules 2026: Clear Bag Size, Allowed Items & Packing List

BC Place bag and water bottle rules are strict for World Cup matches. Break them and you are walking back to your hotel while the match starts without you. Here is the complete packing list.

What You MUST Bring

1. Your ticket (digital or printed) Have it on your phone AND screenshot it. Stadium Wi-Fi will be crushed with 40,000 people. Do not rely on loading it live.

2. A clear bag BC Place and FIFA World Cup matches enforce strict clear bag rules. Vancouver FWC26 says World Cup policy differs from regular BC Place events and may allow slightly smaller bags than normal. Your safest options:

  • No bag at all
  • A very small clear stadium bag — shop small clear stadium bags
  • A small clutch/purse below the normal BC Place limit
  • A clear freezer bag if it fits the final FIFA app policy

3. Government-issued photo ID You may be asked to show ID matching your ticket name. Bring your passport if you are an international visitor.

4. Your Compass Card (loaded) For getting to and from the stadium on SkyTrain. Load at least $10 the night before. Do not count on topping up at the station with 40,000 other fans.

What You SHOULD Bring

5. A phone charger / portable battery You will be taking photos, checking scores, messaging friends, and using maps for 4+ hours. Your battery will die. A small power bank in your clear bag is a lifesaver. Compact 10,000mAh power banks on Amazon start under $30 and fit in a clear bag.

6. Cash (small bills) Some vendors inside and around the stadium are card-only, but street vendors and smaller shops nearby are cash-friendly. $40-60 CAD in small bills is useful.

7. Sunscreen BC Place has a retractable roof that may be open for summer matches. Even if it is closed, you will be walking outside before and after. Vancouver UV in June is strong. Travel-size SPF 50 on Amazon — clears stadium liquid limits.

8. A light jacket or hoodie Evening matches (8-9 PM kickoff) will be 12-15 C. Inside the stadium with the roof open it can feel cooler. Tie it around your waist going through security.

9. Earplugs (optional) 40,000 fans in an enclosed dome. It gets LOUD. If you are sensitive to noise or bringing young children, bring earplugs.

10. A water bottle (empty) You can bring an empty plastic water bottle and fill it inside. Water at concession stands is $5+. A collapsible silicone water bottle saves the most space in a clear bag.

🌍 VISITING FROM OVERSEAS? Roaming charges in Canada will eat your trip budget. Get a Canadian eSIM from Airalo before you land — works the moment you connect to YVR Wi-Fi, no SIM swap, no kiosk lines. Most fans use 3-5GB across a match weekend.

What is BANNED

Do not bring any of these. They will be confiscated or you will be denied entry:

  • Backpacks of any size (even small ones)
  • Clear backpacks and mesh backpacks
  • Purses or bags larger than 6.5" x 8.5" (unless clear)
  • Laptops or tablets larger than 12"
  • Outside food or drinks (sealed water bottle is sometimes allowed, but not guaranteed)
  • Umbrellas
  • Selfie sticks or tripods
  • Professional cameras (anything with a detachable lens)
  • Noisemakers (air horns, vuvuzelas) — FIFA may have specific rules
  • Flags on poles — Flags are usually fine, but flag POLES are not. Bring a flag you can hold or drape.
  • Weapons (obviously)
  • Drones
  • Alcohol

What Happens at Security

The security line works like airport security:

  1. You approach the checkpoint with your clear bag visible
  2. Security does a visual inspection of your bag
  3. You walk through a metal detector (or get wanded)
  4. Bags that do not comply get turned away — no exceptions

Time estimate: 10-20 minutes when gates first open, 30-45 minutes closer to kickoff.

Pro tip: Enter through Gate C or Gate D on the east side of BC Place. Most fans funnel through Gates A and B on the north side because they are closest to the SkyTrain. The east gates are usually faster.

The 60-Second Checklist

Before you leave your hotel, check:

  • Ticket on phone (and screenshot)
  • Clear bag or small clutch
  • Photo ID / passport
  • Compass Card (loaded)
  • Phone charger
  • Cash ($40-60 in small bills)
  • Sunscreen
  • Light jacket
  • Empty water bottle

That is it. Leave everything else at your hotel.

Match-day access

Heads up: streets around BC Place close on match days. If anyone in your group is planning to drive instead of taking the SkyTrain, read the Vancouver World Cup road closures guide first — Pacific Boulevard, parts of Beatty and Expo, and the Cambie Bridge off-ramp to Pacific are out.

Going to a specific match?

Read the fan guide for your team. You will get match times in local timezones, the bars where their fans drink in Vancouver, and the BC Place transit routes locals use.

Or jump to a match: June 13, June 18, June 21, June 24, June 26, Round of 32 (July 2), Round of 16 (July 7).

Frequently Asked Questions

Bring your ticket, photo ID, phone charger, small cash or card, sunscreen, a light jacket, and only a very small clear bag if needed. Vancouver FWC26 says World Cup bag policy differs from normal BC Place rules, so check the Official FIFA World Cup 2026 app before match day.

Phone cameras are fine. Professional cameras with detachable lenses are banned. GoPros and small point-and-shoot cameras are generally allowed but check FIFA-specific rules closer to the event.

No. Outside food and drinks are not allowed. An empty plastic water bottle may be permitted so you can fill it inside. Concessions are available but expensive.

Gates C and D on the east side of BC Place are usually faster. Most fans use Gates A and B on the north side near the SkyTrain, so the east gates have shorter lines.
