BC Place World Cup Uber, Taxi and Drop-Off Guide: Where to Get Out on Match Day
Do not set your Uber, Lyft, taxi, or family pickup destination to the front door of BC Place on Vancouver World Cup match days. The official plan moves spectators through Main Street-Science World Station and the Match Day Spectator Route, with road closures and local-traffic-only restrictions around the stadium.
The safe strategy is simple: get out near Science World, walk the official route, and leave enough time that a slow ride-hailing trip does not cost you the anthem.
Best drop-off point for BC Place World Cup matches
The official Vancouver FWC26 getting-to-BC-Place page says the closest taxi and ride-hailing drop-off point for visitors is:
| Use case | Location | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Closest posted taxi / ride-hailing drop-off | 1510 Quebec Street, at Quebec and Terminal, adjacent to Science World | This connects to the Main Street-Science World arrival area and the official spectator route. |
| Secondary drop-off | 525 W 2nd Ave, by Olympic Village Station on the Canada Line | Useful from the west side, Yaletown, False Creek, and Canada Line trips. |
| Accessible drop-off | Official accessible loading zones listed by Vancouver FWC26 | Use these only if you have the required accessibility need and permit where required. |

Why you should not aim for BC Place
On the seven Vancouver match days, the official spectator journey starts around Main Street-Science World Station. Vancouver FWC26 says spectators enter BC Place via Pacific Boulevard and should start moving from the Match Day Spectator Route into the stadium at least one hour before kickoff.
That means a car that looks close on a map can still be a bad idea because:
- roads around the stadium may be closed,
- local-traffic-only restrictions can block the obvious route,
- drivers may be forced to detour,
- pickup and drop-off space is limited,
- crowds can make a two-block car trip slower than walking.
For the broader street picture, read the road closures and Local Traffic Access Pass guide.
How early should you arrive by Uber or taxi?
Use the same timing you would use for transit, plus a buffer for street closures:
| Kickoff | Safer ride-hailing arrival target |
|---|---|
| 12:00 PM | 9:30-10:00 AM |
| 3:00 PM | 12:30-1:00 PM |
| 6:00 PM | 3:30-4:00 PM |
| 8:00 PM | 5:30-6:00 PM |
| 9:00 PM | 6:30-7:00 PM |
Doors are expected to open three hours before kickoff, and the Match Day Spectator Route opens four hours before kickoff. If you are carrying kids, accessibility gear, or anything that might slow security screening, arrive earlier.
Post-match pickup strategy
The worst time to request a car is immediately after the final whistle from the stadium edge. Walk away from the densest crowd first, then request the ride.
Better pickup zones to consider:
- Olympic Village / W 2nd Ave if you can walk west along False Creek.
- Mount Pleasant / Main Street after crowds thin.
- Gastown or Chinatown only if the closure map and staff directions allow that route.
- Your hotel lobby if it is within a manageable walk.
If your group can use SkyTrain, take the Expo Line from Main Street-Science World and request a car farther from the closure zone. That is often faster than paying surge pricing while your driver sits in a detour.
Accessible drop-off
Vancouver FWC26 lists HandyDART and designated accessible taxi loading on Expo Boulevard near the pedestrian screening area, plus two accessible loading zones for active pickup and drop-off on match days for users displaying a SPARC BC Permit or recognized equivalent:
- eastbound Keefer Street between Taylor and Carrall via Abbott Street,
- westbound Nelson Street between Pacific and Expo via Marinaside Crescent.
Transport to the gates is expected to be available from those locations for people with mobility needs. Confirm the official page before travelling because accessible plans can change by match day.
If you are getting dropped off by family or friends
Do not ask them to circle the stadium. Choose a meeting point away from the closure zone before you leave home:
- Use 1510 Quebec Street / Science World if approaching from the east or south.
- Use Olympic Village if approaching from the west side or Canada Line.
- Share the exact walking route and gate plan in the group chat.
- After the match, agree to walk away from BC Place before pickup.
