Tournament-Period Closures and Setup

The official host committee says tournament-period setup begins May 23, 2026 and takedown continues through the end of July. Some restrictions last longer than the match window.

Granville Street — Georgia to Davie

Granville Street between Georgia and Davie is scheduled to close to vehicle traffic from June 11 to July 20, 2026 for the Granville Street Pedestrian Zone. Expect live music, expanded patios, public programming, and heavy foot traffic.

Bus reroutes: Granville Street buses move to Seymour Street and Howe Street with new dedicated bus lanes.

Pacific Boulevard — Smithe Street to Carrall Street

Fully closed. This is the road that runs directly in front of BC Place. It becomes part of the match-day pedestrian infrastructure and "Last Mile" corridor.

Cambie Street Bridge — Northbound Off-Ramp to Pacific Blvd Eastbound

Fully closed. If you normally exit Cambie Bridge and turn east onto Pacific, you will need an alternative route for 5 weeks.

Other Tournament-Long Restrictions

  • Smithe Street and Cooperage Way (near Parq Casino): local traffic only
  • Griffiths Way and Pat Quinn Way: local traffic only

These additional closures apply only on the 7 days that BC Place hosts a match:

What This Means For You

If You Live Downtown

  • Your building is still accessible. Residents retain home access throughout.
  • Businesses remain open — just harder to reach by car.
  • Deliveries may be restricted during match-day hours. Plan ahead.

If You Are Visiting

  • Do not rent a car for getting around downtown during the tournament. The closures plus 54,500 fans flooding the streets make driving impractical.
  • SkyTrain is your best option. It runs every 2 minutes on match days and is not affected by road closures. Coming from the airport? See our YVR to BC Place guide for the fastest route.
  • Uber/Lyft will work but expect surge pricing and slow routes on match days. Budget $40–60+ for what is normally a $15 ride.

If You Are Driving to Vancouver

  • Park at a suburban SkyTrain station (Metrotown in Burnaby, Bridgeport in Richmond, or King George in Surrey all have park-and-ride lots) and take the train downtown.
  • Do not try to park near BC Place on match days. Street parking within the closure zone is suspended. See our parking near BC Place guide for paid lot options that stay open.

The Granville Street Pedestrian Zone

This deserves its own section because it will define the downtown atmosphere for 5 weeks.

Five blocks of Granville Street (West Georgia to Davie) become fully car-free. What to expect:

  • Live music stages
  • Restaurant patios expanding onto the street
  • Art installations and selfie spots
  • Street vendors and food stalls
  • A European fan-zone atmosphere in the middle of downtown

This will be the social hub of the tournament for anyone not at BC Place or the Fan Festival. It operates daily, not just on match days. Full breakdown: Granville Street pedestrian zone guide.
