Parking Near BC Place During the World Cup: Where to Park & What to Expect

Driving to BC Place on a World Cup match day is a bad idea. But if you have no choice, here is how to make it work.

Why Driving Is Hard on Match Days

Three things happen simultaneously:

  1. Granville Street is closed to vehicles from Georgia to Davie from June 11 through July 20 for the pedestrian zone.
  2. Pacific Boulevard closes on all 7 match days from Cambie to Expo Boulevard. This is the street directly in front of BC Place.
  3. Cambie Bridge off-ramp to Pacific is closed on match days. The main approach from the south side is gone.

Combined, these closures eliminate the two most common driving routes to BC Place. Expect severe congestion on all remaining routes for 3+ hours before and after each match. The full street-by-street list, dates, and FIFA closure map are in our Vancouver World Cup road closures guide.

Best Option: Park-and-Ride at a SkyTrain Station

This is what locals do for any major event at BC Place. Drive to a suburban SkyTrain station, park for free or cheap, and take the train downtown.

The move: Arrive at the park-and-ride 2+ hours before kickoff. Lots fill up for major events. Buy a Compass Card at the station ($6 deposit + fare) or tap your credit card. Take the Expo Line to Main Street-Science World station (not Stadium-Chinatown — it may be restricted on match days). Walk the Last Mile to BC Place.

Downtown Parking That Stays Open

If you must park downtown, these lots are outside the closure zone and within walking distance of BC Place:

Expect to pay $15-30 for event parking. Rates surge on match days. Budget $25+ if arriving within 3 hours of kickoff.

Ride-Share & Taxi Drop-Off

Uber, Lyft, and taxis will not be able to reach BC Place directly on match days. Expect:

  • Drop-off zones on streets east of BC Place (likely Main Street or Quebec Street area)
  • Surge pricing of 2-4x normal rates for 2 hours after final whistle
  • Long wait times post-match — 30-60 minute waits are normal for major events
  • Better strategy: Take a ride-share TO the match, take SkyTrain home. Or walk to Chinatown/Gastown after the match and get picked up away from the crowd.

Cycling

  • BC Place has bike parking at Gate A and Gate C
  • Bring your own lock — event bike parking is first-come, first-served
  • The Seawall cycling path runs directly past BC Place
  • Mobi bike-share stations near BC Place: Science World, Olympic Village, and Cambie Bridge

The Honest Recommendation

Take the SkyTrain. On a normal day, driving to BC Place is fine. On a World Cup match day, with tens of thousands of stadium fans plus large crowds at public viewing and celebration areas, downtown will be gridlocked. The SkyTrain runs directly to the stadium area and TransLink adds extra service on event days.

If you are coming from the suburbs: park-and-ride at Metrotown or Bridgeport. If you are already downtown: walk. If you are visiting and have a rental car: leave it at your hotel.
