How to Get to BC Place: SkyTrain, Walking Routes & Match Day Transit

If you have been to a concert or Lions game at BC Place before, forget that playbook. For FIFA World Cup 2026, official match-day routing is different.

The official match-day transit route: Main Street-Science World

On World Cup match days, Main Street-Science World Station is the key SkyTrain station for BC Place. TransLink has confirmed that the secure event perimeter and crowd-control routing will push fans through the Last Mile from Main Street-Science World into the stadium area.

  • Do not plan around Stadium-Chinatown pedestrian access on match days. It sits beside BC Place, but it is not the normal fan approach route for the tournament.
  • Load your Compass Card before you leave your hotel. If your card has insufficient funds, the fare gates will reject you and you will be stuck at a vending machine with thousands of other fans.
  • Trains will run about every 2 minutes before and after matches. Service will be frequent, but the platforms will still be packed close to kickoff.
  • Build the Last Mile walk into your plan. From Main Street-Science World, follow signage, staff, and the main fan flow toward the stadium perimeter.

⚠️ PRO TIP: If you are coming from the airport (YVR), take the Canada Line to Waterfront Station, then transfer to the Expo Line to Main Street-Science World. Total time: about 30-35 minutes. Do NOT take a taxi on match day unless you enjoy sitting in traffic for an hour.

Walking from downtown hotels

Most downtown Vancouver hotels are within 15-25 minutes of BC Place on foot. Here are the real walking times (not Google Maps optimistic estimates):

  • Yaletown hotels (Opus, YWCA, Hotel BLU): 8-12 minutes. Walk east on Pacific Blvd. You will see the dome.
  • Gastown hotels (Skwachays, St. Regis): 10-15 minutes. Walk south on Abbott or Carrall toward the stadium.
  • Robson Street hotels (Century Plaza, Blue Horizon): 15-20 minutes. Walk south on any street to Pacific Blvd, then east.
  • Coal Harbour / Waterfront hotels (Fairmont Waterfront, Pan Pacific): 20-25 minutes. Walk east along the seawall to the convention centre, then south to BC Place.
  • West End / English Bay hotels (Sylvia, English Bay Hotel): 25-30 minutes. Consider SkyTrain from Burrard Station instead.

On match day, add 5 minutes to all of these. Streets around BC Place get closed to vehicles, and the pedestrian volume slows everyone down.

Driving and parking: Don't

Seriously. The blocks around BC Place will be closed to non-essential traffic on match days. Check our Vancouver World Cup road closures guide for the full street list and FIFA closure map, plus the Local Traffic Access Pass guide if you live or work inside the closure zone. If you drive:

  • Park at least 4-5 blocks away. Try the lots near Science World or east of Main Street.
  • Expect to pay $30-50 for event parking.
  • After the match, you will sit in your car for 30-60 minutes while 40,000 people flood the streets around you.

The SkyTrain is faster, cheaper, and less stressful. Drive only if you have mobility issues or are coming from the suburbs with no transit option.

Ride-share (Uber/Lyft)

Ride-share works fine for getting TO the stadium if you leave early. After the match, forget it. Surge pricing will be 3-5x normal, and your driver will be stuck in the same gridlock as everyone else.

If you must use ride-share after: Walk 10 minutes away from BC Place before requesting. Head to Main Street or Cambie Street where traffic is moving.

Cycling

Vancouver has bike lanes on most downtown streets. There are bike racks near Gate A on the north side of BC Place. Bring a strong lock. Mobi bike-share stations are located on Pacific Blvd and near Science World if you do not have your own bike.

What time should I leave?

Your PlanLeave Hotel By
Grab food near the stadium first3 hours before kickoff
Go straight to the gates2 hours before kickoff
Minimum buffer2 hours before kickoff
You enjoy stress60 minutes (the spectator route and security lines may already be backed up)

Vancouver FWC26 says the Match Day Spectator Route opens four hours before kickoff and stadium doors open three hours before kickoff. If you want a low-stress entry, arrive in that early window instead of timing the final security rush.
